Though there are quite a few movies about skiing out there, only a few are worthy of watching repeatedly. Here’s our list of the top 5 ski movies ever (with one extra, because we couldn’t resist). Enjoy!
1. Downhill Racer (1969)
What Roger Ebert called the “the best movie ever made about sports,” also happens to take our top spot on movies about ski racing.
2. Ski Party (1965)
Kind of a goofy movie, but still one of the classics about skiing.
3. Better Off Dead (1985)
This one stars John Cusack and is about a teen who tries to win back his girlfriend by winning a dangerous ski race.
4. The Performers (1972)
This one is a little lesser known, but perfect nonetheless. It’s a very short documentary about a cross country skiing road trip taken by a few K2 athletes. It’s inspiring and makes you want to skip work, jump in a van with some friends, and head to the mountains.
5. The Spy Who Loved Me (1977)
Though not necessarily a ski flick, it is a James Bond film and it does include this epic ski chase. So we kind of have to put it on the list.
Bonus: Dumb and Dumber
“Those your skis?”“Yep.”
“Both of them?”
“…uh yeah.”
Dumb and Dumber is, of course, one of the all time greats, and the skiing scene is one of the best.
